We are the first quasi-academic journal in Australia, which is entirely run by students of Asian background

The Gavel is a flagship publication of the Chinese Law Students Society ('CLSS') at the University of Sydney Law School. It aims to provide a platform for culturally diverse law students to actively participate in contemporary legal discussions.

The Gavel focuses on trending issues that impact on the legal landscape of countries in Asia Pacific region. We publish annually in both printed and electronic forms, usually in late November to early December.

The Gavel adopts a double-blind peer review process and accepts a wide range of original submissions on a rolling basis. Please refer to the 'Submit' section to understand our submission requirement.

USYD Chinese Law Students Society acknowledges the traditional custodians of this land, the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation.

The University of Sydney is on the sovereign land of these people. As students, we recognise our complicity in the ongoing colonisation of Indigenous land. In recognition of our privilege, we vow to not only include, but to prioritise and centre the experiences of Indigenous people, and to be reflective when we fail to be a counterpoint to the racism that plagues the mainstream media.
